Type O Negative Sounds and Movies

When Slow, Deep, Hard was made, Type O Negative was a new band. Peter Steele ,directly out of Carnivoire, had to deal with lot of controversy over the content of their songs. Within weeks people started calling them racist, facist pigs and they were getting their lives threatened. People said that because of lyrics towards killing people who don't fit the mold, they were evil and rotten.

In '92 they released "Origin of the Feces". It contains several gut wrenching anthems that inspired even more controversy about it. On "Kill you tonight" Peter sings about killing a girlfriend. So now he was a racist, facist, feminist pig. One thing that really caused turmoil was the number of jokes and sarcastic comments about political correctness. That has probably gotten them into trouble more times that one.  The cover illustrated an opened ass crack with the anus showing.  It was really gross, so they changed it.  Both of these two albums (slow deep and hard and origin) were back in Type O's Punk days.  A lot of screaming and yelling happened.  Since then, they have gotten a much mellower, more gothic feel.  They have gone from a "hate band" to a "love band".

In 1993, Bloody Kisses arrived and it didn't change much. It was more gothic and doomier than ever/The album sold surprisingly well, however, selling over two million copies. The band retained their Dark, Gothic image because of their low, heavy riffs and screaming low vocals. The more the world hated them, the more popular they became, it appears. To alleviate any thoughts of racism, they wrote a song on this album called "Kill all the white people, then we'll be free".

In 1996, Type O released its final album to date, October Rust. It seems to be a bit of a different direction. There are a lot more references to love and sex thatn previously. In my girlfriend girlfriend he chronicles the day to day life about him and his lesbo girlfriends.

Peter Steele himself has been acclamed as somewhat of a sex symbol. His centerfold in Playgirl magazine as well as his "always looking for a good time" attitude have made hime almost as popular with the ladies than with the men. Lucky Bastard!!
